About me

Welcome to the about me page.

My name is Peter Whitehart I live in Tiverton Devon. I began my exploration of alternative therapies back in 2008 when I trained in Reiki; First, Second and Master with Colin John, a Reiki teacher in Exeter. I soon realized that Reiki was not for me so I needed to try out other therapies  so during 2009 & 2010 I attended several courses with Gladden therapy training in Tewksbury Gloucestershire: Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) level one and EFT level two; Chakra Therapy; Hopi Ear Candle Practitioner's Diploma; Crystal Massage Therapy; and Angel Therapy, although I was still unsatisfied. I attended two further workshops during 2010. The first was a Heidi Sawyer Psychic Awareness and Healing Certificate of Attendance Course with the Institute of Psychic Development, a weekend course held in London. The second was The Way of the Shaman, also a weekend course held in London with Simon Buxton from the Sacred Trust in Dorset, I still had not found what was right for me, I then remembered having a tuning fork treatment a while ago with my friend Barbara Blakemore for a back problem and I was amazed at how good this treatment was, so I started looking for tuning fork courses and so during August 2009 I attended a basic tuning fork course in Minsterworth, Gloucestershire with Sheila Hill from The School for Inner Sound. It was during this course that I realized that sound therapy was for me. I also attended the advanced tuning fork course in August 2010. And also a cosmic alignment sound therapy workshop in August 2011, again this was with Sheila Hill from the school of Inner Sound, I received a certificate of attendance and six continue development points.

I was very much hooked on sound therapy by this stage and wanted to gain a qualification in sound therapy, this was a brave and daunting experience as I am dyslexic and up to now I have not had to do any written work since leaving school in 1984 but I continued. I found a sound therapy training company and from January 2010 to December 2010 I trained with the British Academy of Sound Therapy at Chichester University Bognor Regis, undertaking the Certificate Course in Sound Therapy which included gong therapy, drum therapy, and tuning fork therapy. Each module was one weekend per month for three months and the first module was the gong, this was the first experience I had with the gong and it really blew my mind, I was very hooked on the gong. I also found the Drum module to be equally good, but I new I was going on the gong journey. The final module I did was the tuning fork module, I didn't like this module at all, I came to realize that I had done the best tuning fork training with the school for inner sound and no other tuning fork training could come close. Sadly I did not complete my training with The British academy of sound therapy, I struggled understanding the paperwork, and I could not face doing case studies for the tuning fork module.

Out of the frustration of not gaining a qualification, “Sound Gong Bath” was born, I realized I could do gong baths, I didn’t need a degree to play the gongs so I started buying equipment and got a cheap website, I rented a local venue one evening a month and started running monthly gong baths. It wasn’t long before I needed more venues and an up graded website. I decided also that it was time to try again for a qualification so From September 2011 and till October 2012 I trained with Sheila Whittaker from the college of sound healing undertaking the Gong Practitioner Training Course. I graduated in October 2012, gaining a certificate. I highly recommend this training, if you are interested in the gong and want to gain a gong practitioners certificate, then please go to my Recommendation page where I have included details.

During April of 2013 I attended a one day voice workshop with Sheila Hill from the school of inner sound in Minsterworth Gloucestershire. Also I attended a sounding bowl one day workshop in Gloucestershire during November 2013 I also attended a one day first aid course in November 2013, gaining a first aid certificate running an till 2016. In June 2014 I attended and took part in an all night gong puja, I and many other gong practitioners all took turns and gave a thirty minute session each and kept a constance gong sound going for eight hours. During August 2014 I attended a day's tuning fork course in Minsterworth Gloucestershire with Sheila Hill from the school of inner sound.

Since gaining my gong practituners training certificate in October 2012 I have continued to be a member of the college of sound healing and I have completed atleast 20 hours of continue development points/hours per year. I also keep my first aid training certificate updated and my insurance is renewed each year.

Thank you for reading through this page. I hope you enjoy my website; I am doing my best at supplying as much information on the gong as possible, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I am very happy to help. Kind regards Peter Whitehart.
